Rome

Breathing Museum Full of History, Art and Major Attractions

No other city in the world is quite like Rome.  It’s a living, breathing museum full of history, art and major attractions.

Just perfect for:

those who love walk a lot and enjoy architecture.

those who love shopping and good cuisine.

Not the best choice for:

those looking for a peaceful holiday: especially in high season when Rome can be crowded with holidaymakers.

When to Visit:

The best time to visit Rome is from October to April when most of the tourist crowds have dissipated and room rates are lower. Although you’ll need a warm coat, weather this time of year hardly ever dips below freezing.

Best Things to Do in Rome (Italy)

  • Toss a Coin in the Trevi Fountain

This is a touristy one, but how can you possibly go to Rome without partaking in this age-old tradition? Throngs of people gather at the lip of the fountain to toss coins over their left shoulder, so much that over 3000 Euros are collected for charity here each day.

However, most tourists aren’t necessarily making a charitable contribution. They’re tapping into the tradition that says if you throw a coin in the Trevi fountain, you’ll return to the Eternal City someday.

  • Italian Street food

A quick gastronomic break, enjoyed al fresco. Street food has become the latest tasty trend, but in this field Rome already has a strong tradition. Pizza, for starters. Walking in the city, you cannot help but notice the truly remarkable number of pizza slice shops known as pizzerie a taglio.

  • Sit on the Spanish Steps

Yes, it’s crowded and yes, it’s touristy. So what, it has to be done. For some reason, it has become a favorite resting, gelato eating and people-watching spot, overlooking the Fontana della Barcaccia.

Before or after your Spanish Steps sit, you can stroll down the Via Condotti, one of the most fashionable streets in Rome. Gucci, Valentino, Armani and all the other who’s who of Italian design are represented there.

  • Climb Capitoline Hill and Gaze Over the Forum

Rome is built on seven fabled hills, one if its most central and significant being Capitoline Hill. Traces of several important temples can be found there. At the top, you’ll find the Michelangelo designed Piazza del Campidoglio and the various Capitoline Museums.

  • The terraces of the Vittoriano (Altar of the Fatherland)

Few words can adequately describe the simply breathtaking view which may be enjoyed from the Terrace of the Quadrigas on top of the Monument to Victor Emamuel II, the Vittoriano or the Altar of the Fatherland.

Two glass lifts, which first went into use in 2007, take visitors up to the top of this massive marble monument for a unique 360 degree panorama of the eternal city.
